Watch out homeowners, a scam is sweeping the nation. If you receive a letter telling you to send $59.50 for an official copy of your deed, do not fall for it! The letter looks official, and even conveniently leaves a space for you to write in your credit card number on the bottom.
First, you don't need a copy of your property deed, it's a matter of public record.
Second, if you want a copy, you can get one for less than $10 from you county clerk. Some counties even provide a view and download feature for free right off their website!
Though National Deed Service, Inc., is likely providing a legal service, it's highly unethical and extremely worthless (given the 600% markup for a document you don't even need).
